The Cheetah Centre in South Africa was established in 1971, initially as a cheetah breeding project and the Centre has during the past 40 years bred over 800 cheetah cubs. Various conservation projects have been initiated since its inception which also inlcudes a successful African wild dog breeding programme. Known in the past as the De Wildt Cheetah Centre the name has recently been changed to the Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre as a tribute to the woman who has devoted her life to the survival of the cheetahs as well as other rare and endangered species

The animals are not free wild ones, but almost. It is a wonderful experience, and not only for the cheetahs.

Having made the trip over to South Africa every two years for the past 6 and having lived on the Eastern Cape for the majority of my childhood, I never expected a wildlife center to catch my interest all that much until I encountered the knowledgeable and genuinely lovely people at Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre. I took my girlfriend... More

A little outside of Pretoria but definitely worth a visit. They do great work toward conservation and you get to see lots of animals up close. Highly recommend the ambassador experience, a must see!

The tour starts at 8:00 so I got there early enough to sign in and have a cup of coffee. We were gathered together for a brief lecture and then we walked to an open... More

Came here for an afternoon tour and was completely blown away - not only do you get the chance to see such beautiful animals up front and close but the staff interacts with them with complete respect and enthusiasm. I'm not interested in seeing captive animals caged in zoos far from their native habitats. This centre is such a treat... More
