Well worth a visit. A fascinating man, not sadly forgotten. The family's actual furniture is still in place. We are so blessed to still have these old manor homes intact. to visit. So little government subsidy is available to maintain them. The tea garden is a disapointment and not really worth stopping at.

We book a few tables outside under the trees for my husband’s birthday last year. The host really when out of his way to provide us with the best service and also more than we expected. The tables were laid out with table cloths and overlays. They also provided blankets & pillows to lounge on the law. To top it... More

Olde worlde charm and elegance, certainly one of the most well preserved Victorian houses in the world, with a wonderful team of dedicated curators, gardeners, guides, etc... The house is EXACTLY as it was, wonderfully kept, so are the gardens, croquet lawn, fruit orchard etc. My daughter got married there, we had the ceremony in the croquet and the reception... More

Not as well kept as I would have liked it to be, but then again, there is not much government support as there should be for this heritage site. Stunning little tea garden though.

I went with a group of friends and we did the house tour followed by the garden picnic. House tour was really impressive. The history of the owners's life is a typical reflection of South Africa's 1800s history. A poor European young man, lands in South Africa in search for opportunities. His wit and business sense lead him to many... More

This has often been a must visit to take overseas tourists. Our most recent experience was very disappointing. The place appeared to be run-down. We asked why and were told that it is no longer on the recognised itinerary by tourist companies. Shame

The tour of the house is affordable and well worth the trip! The tour guides are friendly and very knowledgeable, which just made the entire experience that much more interesting. The tour guide we had, in particular, had done some of her own research to slake her curiosity - and the result was an hour well spent. Tea in the... More
