On Friday, after touring the Voortrekker Monument and Fort Schanskop we went on to Fort Klapperkop, arriving around 14h30 - only to be greeted by closed gates and a guard who informed us that the fort was closed due to "a meeting". Well, OK, meetings are no doubt vital even when they seriously inconvenience paying visitors - so back home... More

It is such a pity that in South Africa , the historical places are not more advertised . This museum is so interesting. One walks through one room through to another , walking trough how life must have been . And as in any history , admire the conditions of how people suffered , and the harshness of the land... More

Should be done in conjunction with the Voortrekker monument visit as access is easily achieved by taking the rear road from the Voortrekker carpark. Great viewpoint across Pretoria and the surrounding hills. Well preserved fort with a number of good displays and diorama of a Boer campsite.

Brings back many painfull memories of my years in the military. First with compulsary military service(2years) and then as a civilian serving for 10 years. Great memorial for fallen comrades who proudly served this country. Museum well maintained. Nice view over Unisa, the Union Buildings, Loftus and Pretoria. If you served, a visit well deserved.

The Fortklapperkop Military Museum is a wonderful exhibition that does marvelous work with limited resources and support. The surrounding area and views are spectacular especially at sunset and sunrise. This is a perfect weekend outing for the whole family.

Placed right on top of a mountain, overlooking the now modern highways, this fort provides a clear view for miles. No wonder the cannons face this expanse. Very interestingly laid out, and provides an in-depth understanding of military history

A lovely visit for everybody intrested in South African history, the Fort has been restored and have lovely exhibits. There is a small shop selling snacks and curious. The site has an excellent view over Pretoria, and the grounds are used by joggers or people enjoying the outdoors.

This is a small site but should be visited to observe the strategic location. Also view the small exhibits and understand the situation. No history should be forgotten as it indicates the path of the people followed to where we are today.
