Went here as part of my daughters school project as she schools in the area. Have always seen the signs for this place but it was my first time here. Really interesting. Small museum but lots to take in. Reccomended.

Although located some distance from the city center, the Bergtheil museum specializes in the early history of the Germanic community in the area. With artifacts and well researched historical information, this is definitely one museum to visit if in the KZN area and with much time to spare. Definitely worth the visit especially for the history and culture buffs.

I love the authenticity of this museum. Small but well worth it. The museum has many different interesting areas to look at. The history of the area is interesting and the way of life so very different. Feels a lot like walking into a time capsule. Worth the visit.

A bit disappointing as there are a lot of repairs needed to the buildings. I am hoping that repairs and maintenance could be budgeted for with this Museum as I think it is important to protect these spaces for our children and their children. Don't think it will be around that long as it will soon need major renovation.

OK, you have to make sure you visit when they open. But if you get that right it's like stepping back in time. must be honest not much of an attraction, attended a morning market and took the time to go through the museum which I suppose was OK but no great shakes, just think that for a historic site not much advertising or actually anything to attract a person to recommend it

This is a small museum in the Westville area of Durban, South Africa, dedicated to some of the early German settlers to the Westville/New Germany area. The Bergtheil settlers arrived in South Africa in 1848 and included my great-great-grandfather and his young son (my great-grandfather). The museum is housed in a lovely old house dating from about 1840 and houses... More

Lovingly restored, and run on a shoe string, this museum is well set out, displaying the clothes and utensils of yesteryear. Fascinating and interesting.

If you ever wanted to know more about the history of Westville and the early German settlers then this is a must-see destination. Well looked after and full of enough interesting tidbits to keep you interested for around an hour. It would be great to have a coffee / souvenir shop open at the same time.
