Experience nature’s grandeur at the KwaZulu-Natal National Botanical Garden in Pietermaritzburg. This garden’s Victorian past is evident in its magnificent specimens of northern hemisphere plants. One of the most dramatic features is the majestic avenue of London Plane Trees.

Most impressive walk in the park with own basket of a picnic lunch. The trees and the setting along the little river and in the forest are worth seeing.

I decided to add the botanical gardens to my trip after seeing it here on TripAdvisor. It was reasonably priced but after that there wasn't much. The toilets weren't clean and the grounds didn't feel looked after. It felt unorganized and confusing. There was construction...More

Notwithstanding that a significant portion of the gardens is a civil construction site which is for obvious reasons blocked off the public. That that remains is unkempt, poorly managed and going to ruin. There are so many alien invaders just let to grow it is...More

I love going here to sit on a bench and snap away. From the canopies above to the lake at the bottom it is just so relaxing. Good place to gather your thoughts or to get a good workout.

There's no doubt the Botanical Gardens is one of Pietermaritzburg's greatest assets, which begs the question: Why is it so poorly supported? One of the main reasons for this travesty is the restaurant, or rather, the empty shell that is meant to have a restaurant....More
