The vaal dam area is surrounded with small towns where you can have breakfast or experience the scenery It's worth driving around to appreciate the surrounding scenery and area - the vaal is spectacular when it's full

We camped at the recreational area and had a great time. Faculties are not great and the gate remained opened throughout the night. We were a large group, I would not advise going with a small group. Fishing was good.
