We went here as part of a half day tour. Uncle Dudley, the South African Navy officer responsible for firing of the cannon, is a really engaging character and tells you the significance of the guns firing at exactly noon each day (apart from Sunday)....More

If you hear a cannon being fired at noon, do not panic. It is not an invasion nor is it being fired in anger, but merely a traditional signal installed by the British when the Cape was still a British Colony.

If you are from Cape town you will look at your watch or any clock near you, It is always on time. you can visit just before noon to make worth while or just be prepare to just hear it.

Having a lovely time shopping and at 12 o'clock stopped to hear the gun that we could hear in the waterfront. A good way of checking your watch.

It's loaded and goes bang at noon!! Fantastic tradition but you only hear it if you are in the City Bowl area/ Waterfront, you will not here it in Sea Point which is on the other side of signal hill !
