Entry for my wife and I was R50 each because we had a HO-HO ticket. The price is the same for a or senior or student. We spent about 60 minutes at the museum. Note that it opened later than advertised on the day we visited so don't depend on it being open at 0900. Wait until 0930 or later.... More

Hello Ross, Thank you for taking time to provide a review. Sincere apologies for the delay in opening and any inconvenience caused, having visited cape town you would be aware of the apartheid spacial planning where people of color live far from their place of work. It takes up to 3 hours per trip for staff to get to work... More

In case you thought all evidence of the Waterfront's military history was lost to shopping malls and hotels come here to see what treasures still lies beneath. And before you leave make sure you ask the lady in charge about her personal experience of a visit to Robben Island before it became a tourist attraction.

As a tour guide I visited Chavonnes Battery as part or a tour starting at Ysterplaat air force museum and would come here the military people who are supposed to let your take tourists round Fort Wynyard wont let you in because they dont feel like it. Fascinating work on how the fortifications used to be

Other half wanted to visit here as he's a real history buff. Very quiet inside despite being high season with interesting historical information on construction and recent rediscovery of the Battery. Reasonable number of artefacts such as cannon balls to see as well as the sand area where Jan van Riebeeck probably once stood. Lady on reception was very knowledgeable... More

Very interesting museum with a variety of things to see. Entry even included exhibition of amazing photographs. Loads of cannons also very nice to see. Trying to piece together what the fort used to look like with the help of the diagrams was a very fun experience. Would highly recommend this place to any person interestes in history, weaponry or... An interesting place to visit which we have been told was discovered by accident when the vast building above was being built. We have visited there although we don't go anymore because the bank above gave us a really hard and difficult experience during a time of need when they could have been helpful and supportive. So we don't visit... More

An interesting museum about the fortifications of Cape Town and the remains that were preserved by chance. A well presented display and visit when with a guide. Without a guide, the visit is less interesting.

If you enjoy history and archaeology, you will definitely enjoy this museum. There is a lot of theater of the mind as you see the exposed areas of the battery and imagine it as it once was. The exhibits are really interesting, and you are up close and in the middle of it so you feel a part of it.... More

This is the 2nd time that our Probus club has visited this museum. For those who are not aware of it it was discovered when they were excavating for new buildings in the Waterfront Clock Tower precinct. They discovered the remains of one of the most important forts guarding the Cape of Good Hope during the early days of Dutch... More

At R70 this does not compare as favorably as the Castle, which is R30 and there is much more to see. But if you are really into 17th C forts it is worthwhile.
