Beautifull woodwork

The woodwork in this church is beautiful. The pulpit with its canopy and intricate woodwork is loose standing and has stairs for the preacher to enter.

Beautiful, different from the conventional. A real landmark of the city of George, central, within walking distance of several hotels, guesthouses and restaurants.

I have been to a couple of choirs events there and also went on a historical tour of the building. A beautiful old church full of history.

What a majestic and beautiful piece of architecture against the backdrop of mountains or sky. A little bit of history: The cornerstone of this magnificent Mother Church was laid in 1832. The foundations were 6 foot deep and five foot wide to carry the 3 foot thick walls. Building materials were brought by the wagon-loads full - 180 loads! The... More

The churches history spans back to 1832 when the foundation was first laid, due to money problems the church was only inaugurated in 1842. The stinkwood pulpit and yellow wood ceilings craftsmanship is truly spectacular, the detail is absolutely fantastic. Not only for the religious but for all lovers of history or architect to view. The church is open from... More

We decided to pop into The Mother Church to see what their Christmas Market was like in the week leading up to Christmas, we did not expect very much. As we currently reside aboard, we are always keen to have traditional Afrikaans (South African) homemade edibles and we knew that if nothing else we would find particularly delicious food. This... A most interesting interior, this building is photogenic both inside and outside. The wood used is all local and the design is wonderful.

This church has a special organ inside but is renowed for its yellow wood ceiling. This gives the church a unique atmosphere. Since George is important for its wood this is the place to have a celining like that.
