This was a "we have to stop somewhere near George but where?" kind of place. It turned into a must-not-miss recommendation and a 12-bottle wine purchase. A wine-tasting was followed by the shared cheese platter lunch - which was worth the visit all by itself....More

Sampled the region’s fine cheeses and wines while overlooking the valleys rolling towards the Afguns River. Herold Wine Estate is a charming winery with spectacular views of the clouds rolling over the mountain tops. For an easy drive, enter Montagu Pass from R62 and travel...More

Thank you for the visit and review of our little winery. Our vineyards also love the clouds rolling over the mountain cooling them down for slow ripening. hope to see you again !

Small winery when compared to the established wine estates surrounding Cape Town and Stellenboch. Nice restaurant where one can have lunch and order a cheese board. Wine tasting for R30 per person. The owner and winemaker pours the wine.

Tasting is very inexpensive. Restaurant with a nice menu at a good price. Not a big place so there isn’t too much to do.

Lovely place to visit, taste & buy the wines together with tasty food. Owner very friendly and knowledgeable. Those of a nervous disposition (or lacking a 4x4) better off taking the Outeniqua pass rather than the Montague pass.

Thank you for the review. The Montagu Pass built tn 1844 is some times a bit more difficult to drive than the Outeniqua Pass, especially after some nice rain. But it is very scenic !! We are glad you enjoyed the experience.

It was such a scenic drive through the Montagu pass. We stopped for a quick wine tasting, had fun posing with our awesome waiter and drove back home.

Herald Wine Estate is situated in a magnificent setting with the Outeniqua Mountains as a backdrop. It is only 20 minutes from George and makes a special journey over the Montagu Pass. Their wine is excellent.

Thank you for the review. 20 Minutes away from George but it feels like its worlds apart. Really glad that you liked the wines!

Hi thanks for asking! We do a small cellar tour and tasting of seven wines. It takes about 40 minutes. There is a R20 tasting fee that is waived if any of our wines are bought. Wine regards Nico
