My wife and I were recommended this township tour, as it supports the township community. How impressed we were! Penny met us from outside our apartment in the minibus and we then met Ella, who was our host for the duration. What an inspirational and contagiously happy lady! Her work within the community and inspiring zest for life was truly... More

Such an interesting, informative tour and learned so much about the history of townships and understanding of their place in South Africa. Can't thank Ella and Penny enough for this outstanding experience. A must do!

We certainly did enjoy the tour and found it to be poignant and inspiring; it will certainly very much be a key part of our treasured memories of our wonderful holiday in South Africa. It was important to see both the legacy of apartheid and the progress that is being made as the new South Africa moves towards the future.... More

This provided us with a great window into township life, albeit of a township with a strong sense of community, relatively low crime rate and with an increasing proportion of well set out brick built houses. Ella led the tour through local shops, businesses, library and a lovely welcome in the creche. She came across as a driving force behind... More

My wife and I were a bit skeptical about a township tour, as it felt a bit voyeuristic to us, but our skepticism was proved wrong upon meeting our hosts, Mama Ella and Zee (sorry if I got the names wrong). We were given a very informative tour of the Knysna township, which involved speaking to locals, visiting local businesses,... More

Guided by the very personable 'Zee' a resident of the Knysna township we had a great insight into township life. Knysna is not a typical 'shantytown' but a developing community where the government rebuilding programme is much in evidence. We learned much about township life, visiting and talking to some of the tradespeople but the highlight of the 'tour' was... More

It's possible to travel through the Western Cape with little contact with the majority black population, except through being served in restaurants and petrol stations, so a township tour is the best way of getting a balanced view of the country. We chose this tour because the proceeds directly benefit a number of important projects. Our guide was very welcoming... More

There are a number of township tours to choose from in Knysna, but I recommend this one because they do much for the community including running a 'safe house' for abused women and children. That said, this is anything but depressing; in fact it's inspiring to see how well life is organized and what a strong sense of community exists... More

Just the most interesting and entertaining trip you can do in South Africa finishes up in the owners house with her 19 kids she looks after for a tea and a sing song just the best fun and cheap as well. Go do it you won't regret it
