Visit Pledge Nature Reserve in the heart of Knysna to view indigenous plants to the area and some history. Before Knysna was officially named a town, it was made up of small settlements, one of which was Newhaven, just east of today’s Long Street – the lo g straight roadthat bisects the town and runs down to Thesen Island.

We took our doggies for a walk in this beautiful park in the middle of Knysna. You will not believe that it's in town. More like in the forest. Very clean and the paths are swept every day. A real hidden gem!

If you do not have time to venture into the woods surrounding Knysna, this should give you a ( very) small idea of some of the fauna. I did not really think it was worth a visit after walking through some of the woods in the area.

A ideal walk for those wishing to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. A short easy walk among beautiful Protea flowers and sceneries.

It doesn't take long to walk every path in this nature reserve but it's worth it. There are lots of pretty plants. It's a great walk and the view at the top is really nice.

It could be a really nice was but I found it to have so many small problems that I couldn't fully enjoy it. Some of the signs have been pulled out. The colours on the feet marking the paths do not correspond with the ones on the map. Also, Urban DVD has closed so the notice at the entrance which... More

When I arrived in Knysna I was disappointed to find my hostel was too far from the forest and famous national parks to get there without my own transport. Discovering the Pledge Nature Reserve right near Main Road was exactly what I needed. It's easy to get to - behind Pledge Square - and get your tickets (R20 adults, R10... More

What a pleasurable little hike on this little paradise right in the middle of the town. With the easy trails, not much effort to climb to the top where one is treated to a breath-taking view of the Knysna Heads and the Leisure and Thesen Islands. The most beautiful part for me is examining closely the abundant variety of flowering... More

This little park near the Centre of town is a great short stop off in knysna. It's a quick way to see a portion of forest or go for a short walk.

Went birding at Pledge Reserve again today. Only got started at 11h30 which is a bit late. Was very pleasantly surprised to see a pair of Olive Woodpeckers up real close, a Blue Mantled Crested Fly Catcher and a Cape Batis and not so pleasantly surprised when a fairly long brownish snake darted across my path into the undergrowth. The... More

The nature reserve has a fascinating history of being reclaimed from a logging waste area. Hard to believe what has been achieved in a relatively short amount of time. It is a beautiful and peaceful place to meander along the trails, or just watch the dragonflies over the pond. Plenty of benches to sit on and enjoy the birds
