A shop cum museum that is full of 'stuff'. It has many hidden nooks and crannies and hidden rooms. Well worth a mooch round to look at what is on offer or for sale - hard to tell which is which sometimes! You don'y need long there, but it is worth a quick look.

Despite visiting Stellenbosch hundreds of times over the years this was my 1st visit to what is a local & famous "institution". I'm Samie's se Winkel is an old fashioned general store which basically sells everything & anything from very smelly dried fish to Wit Blitz (a potent home made spirit) & from sweets & chocolate to 2nd hand fur... It was painted as an Alladins cave and it really isn't ... the shop upstairs next door is a much better vintage treasure trove!

they got these old things they sell and new things. hard to explain. I know a lot of books mention this place but believe me, worth visiting and a must when being in Stellenbosch

Disappointing following Rough Guide recommendation. Uninspiring diverse range of goods - staff not particularly child friendly.

So much fun! Everything you can imagine and more -- spices, jewelry,South African food items, toys such as African dominos, old butter churns, books, etc. - basically anything and everything. It is nearly impossible not to purcase at least one item. This is a popular tourist destination and becomes at times quite crowded.

What a cluttered and muddled shop! Offers a wide range of items for sale, food, preserves, leather goods, wine...but the stock is quite dated and over priced, even by Stellenbosch standards. Their baked items all looked stale and possibly from Oom Samie's era - antique! Sadly not a great experience.

This is one of the most enjoyable little shops I've ever been to, and my overseas visitors loved it.

I have never been in a space with so much merchandise crammed into such a small space! Whilst I found it interesting enough, I soon got claustrophobia and had to retreat! Yes, the bokkoms were there but way past their prime, resembling cardboard caricatures of their former glory, dusty now, rather than smelly. Definitely an experience not for the faint-hearted.... Typically South African store in Stellenbosch. Style dates back to Jan van Riebeeck who landed at the Cape in 1652. (I can only imagine). There's something of everything. A very strong "snoek " smell assaults your senses when you walk in. Almost becomes unbearable after a while. But still worth scratching around in. From home made boiled sweets to spices... More
