The urban sprawl of Stellenbosch comes to an abrupt halt, in its south-western suburb of Onderpapegaai, when you enter the gates of Middelvlei. Suddenly, before you lies a beautiful vineyard-strewn amphitheatre overlooking the Bottelary Hills and the upper reaches of Devon Valley. This is the home of the Momberg family, who have been wine farmers since 1919.Join in the Boerebraai fun at Middelvlei where our resident braai expert will prepare your chops, boerewors and chicken sosaties to perfection. As if the appetising aromas of roosterkoek and braaibroodjies are not enough, Ben's homemade pâté and Ouma Annie's pumpkin fritters have placed the Middelvlei Braai in a league of its own.

We drove through to Cape Town (from Plett) on a Sunday morning, to meet great friends (plus their kids) for a lunch-time braai (barbeque is what the Americans and Aussies do, and is not even close). Given the hectic travel schedule of one of our friends (who spends wayyy too much in the USS for his own good), we agreed... More

Great idea to give the country "feel" and the setting is peaceful. The food is average . The salads are fresh. The chops were questionable....lamb or goat? Wors was reasonable. All in all an experience to tick off the bucket list !

To be honest, my braai at home is tastier. The meat at Middelvlei is very low quality and not much to rave about. The idea is great but the waitress serving us needs to decide if she really wants to be there or not.

Lovely wine farm in Stellenbosch that offers the most Amazing Boerebraai at a very good price.Their homemade snoek pate with homemade bread...is YUMMY! Oh, and the pumpkin fritters that accompany the braai meat...the BEST! It is worth the visit to this farm and they have lovely wines as well. You need to book though for the Braai!

Went for lunch because we read that it was child friendly. It is. The setting is very casual and informal and kids can roam freely without too much care or concern. Food is "picnic at the table" and was plenty, tasty and fresh. Overall very positive experience. R

With over 150 vineyards in the area, we were lucky that our tour operator chose this vineyard for a visit. I did not stay in the hotel area, but we had a lovely lunch here, all cooked on the BBQ and it was divine. We then had a tasting of wines straight from the barrel which was awesome. The wines and... My partner and I went on an impromptu day trip to Stellenbosch on a rainy day in September 2016. We stopped at the Stellenbosch Tourist Center and chanced upon Middelvlei in a pamphlet. It was the only restaurant listed to serve Boerebraai, a South African cuisine we had yet to sample, and we jumped on the chance. We called ahead... More

Our group enjoyed a delicious lunch in the sun on this beautiful premises. We liked the Pinotage Merlot best, from all the wines we have tasted there. The dachshund was cute and constantly looking for visitor attention. There were other farm animals and also quite some tortoises.

What an incredibly fabulous experience. I have often wished that someone would set up a braai restaurant in a beautiful setting so one can sit back and relax whilst others do all the work and voila I find this spot when trawling the Internet for ideas. Every morsel was lip smacking from start to finish and I would highly recommend... More
