I'm ashamed to say that I had not heard of the convent until we visited Tomar for other reasons but it was stunning. The location is fantastic but what made it so special was the size of it and the fact that every time we thought we had seen the best of it we would go through a door or... More

A fine Convent built 12th C onwards and well restored. Not to be missed. Just some of the best parts are the Charola (octagonal Templar altar), Main Cloister (with intricate stone stairways to roof level) and Manueline Window (apparently one of the most original). Excellent value needing several hours to really explore and be amazed.

Reserve 2 hours to see this big, well-preserved temple. The ticket costs 6 Euro and is totally worth it. When inside you feel like really touching the history! There is a train every hour from Lisboa Santa Apolonia to Tomar, so no excuse not to come!

Great structure just an hour from Lisbon. It worth the trip, a very fascinating place. The castle was also very beautiful

One may nearly hear Templarios moving through their main castle, planning next moves, mitting with mighty poeple of this world. It is definitely THE place to go into in Tomar

I had read about the building before arrival but nothing had prepared me for the scale of the structure and its decoration which was truly amazing. I would have to rate it as one of if not the most spectacular structures I have ever visited, I will not attempt to describe the chapel as words fail me but if this... More

Having visited quite a number of stunning places worldwide I was amazed how beautiful and rare was this Tomar place. You could play you are one of a Dan Brown's characters searching for the Templars' secrets. Building itself is very rare mix of styles and architectonic puzzles.

We drove to this site in the mid-afternoon expecting it to be busy and full of tourists but the castle is so large with so many halls and rooms that you can have many moments alone to be inspired by this amazing site. It definitely lived up to my expectations.

This attraction is a "must see" while in Portugal. The architecture and history are amazing, and the views from the Castle are spectacular. After the visit, I learned much about the local history and background of the people who populated this area. This is a must see.

The no 1 place to visit in Tomar , no question . Buildings are breathtaking and views are unbelievable. For a family of 4 it cost €9 , they could charge that each and it would be good value . Huge place to visit and allow 2 hours , you can't visit this part of Portugal without visiting it .
