This little gem of a market next to the Lacroze Train station sells organic and healthier food. Having lived in Colorado and California for most of my adult life, healthier food options were abundant. This is not necessarily the case here in Argentina. Although this market is "meat heavy", all the items here are top notch. I even found wheatgrass... More

If you're from an organic-eating/fresh/local foods town, and you're living in BA, El Galpon will feel a little like home. *Because local grocery stores here do NOT have unsugared yogurts and the like. It's only open Wednesday and Saturdays, and is next to a villa(slum), but it is safe, friendly, yummy and welcoming. There are a variety of local 'organic'... More

A very different spot in the land of meat and potatoes. If you're looking for some fresh, organic, produce, this is the place! The vendors here are clearly very passionate about what they do, as are the founders/operators of El Gapon. It's a great place to purchase tidbits to take back home to family/friends and also to find some delicious... More

Myself and a few friends really enjoyed visiting El Galpon this past December. Whilst it can be quite difficult to find, once you are there you will find some very high quality, organic products all housed in this very socially conscious environment. We managed to meet Federico who went out of his way to explain the history and vision for... More

Checked this market out as part of a group when I was in BA. It's down a long path and is kind of tough to find, but its definitely worth making the effort. The market itself is undercover with lots of stalls. There is quite a variety of things to buy: fresh fruit, meat, wine etc (all organically and sourced... More

Visited El Galpon when I was in BA last month. It was suggested by some friends as an authentic experience to taste local food. Def agree with that statement; I liked it a lot, it was a nice break from the meat experience :) all the food is locally sourced and actually growers sell their stuff themselves. The best part... Best of all this is a place that truly feels authentic. If you want to go to BA and get a feel for part of the... More

Stopped by El Galpon twice when I was in BA with friends from graduate school. I was fortunate enough to speak with Federico, the manager of El Galpon, and learn about their social mission, and their relationship with the cooperative group that also runs local schools and other community resources. Great set of organic foods, and a tasty lunch. A... More

I visited El Galpon with a group of 25 individuals in mid-December. El Galpon is housed in a funky yellow shed and filled with vendors selling organic goods ranging from Argentine wines to empanadas to beauty products and meats, fruits, and vegetables. There's also a cute, simple restaurant that serves vegetarian (and vegan) food and awesome juices. The exterior looks... More
