Plaza San Martín is a park located in the Retiro neighbourhood of the City. French landscape architect Carlos Thays designed the Plaza which is surrounded by some of the City's most impressive public buildings. It is named after the hero of Argentinian independence. The Plaza is home to impressive monuments and statues. A must see area of Buenos Aires.

Situated near San Martin Palace and English Watch Tower this plaza is on a small hill. Like a small park, many trees keep you in the shade. Some interesting monuments to the military Has a small dog park that attracts many owners

I like this plaza together with the nice buildings and monuments included in them but certainly it is nicer during the day in a sunny day than late at night when it can be a bit hairy with a lot of homeless people be people along for money. Nevertheless an attractive square

Plaza San Martin is one of the most peaceful places in Buenos Aires. Half of it is situated on a little hill which gives a lovely view on top of everything else. Perfect place to relax and read a book.

What a sweet little park in the middle of a very busy cosmopolitan city. Plenty of places to rest ones feet after all your walking. There is a dog park with agility equipment but unfortunately there were no dogs there when we visited. Don't be swayed by the stairs, it's worth it when you get to the top.

You will walk a lot if you are a budge traveler. I traveled Buenos Aires during the summer so I sweated a lot and got tired very easily. This was one of the parks that I took a time to rest and refreshed myself. Good place to lie down and sip some juice.

Plaza San Martin is one of those centrally located parks in Buenos Aires that I think most people aught to swing through during the explorations of the city. My wife and I visited here one late morning in November, found ourselves a park bench, and spent well over an hour people watching and soaking up the atmosphere. I think this... More

A nice way to get away from the hustle and bustle of Buenos Aires, very close to Calle Florida, the shopping area. The statue to San Martin is quite impressive and worth a quick look and photo

This is a large park, very beautiful, and full of life. Whether for a morning walk or a relaxing way to spend the afternoon, it is great for people-watching.

Staying in Retiro

Neighbourhood Profile
Exquisite palaces and luxurious apartment buildings combine with art galleries and exclusive boutiques to make Retiro the perfect spot for those who enjoy sophistication. However, the non-stop foot traffic to and from Retiro train and bus terminals, accompanied by the myriad of trucks leaving and arriving at the port, mean this neighbourhood is never truly at rest. One minute you are walking down a street dotted with ornate mansions and luxurious shop windows and the next you find yourself surrounded by a sea of people racing to catch their train or bus. It is this juxtaposition of never-ending comings and goings and quiet, elegant luxury that defines Retiro, as well as Buenos Aires, a city where sharp contrasts are all around.
