This was within 5 min from my hotel. I like old majestic buildings and the churches on foreign soil fits the bill.

Persistence in our case paid off. It was closed the first couple times we went by, but we got lucky and were able to get in because there was a student orchestra playing a short concert. Other than the alter the church is rather plain, but well worth a visit.

Right next to the Recoleta cemetery, this little chapel is often shadowed by its neighbour, but it deserves a little recognition. For those who like history this is a stop you should make, the chapel has a nice guided tour that takes you to the back of the building, where there is a very interesting museum that dates from the... Considered the oldest of Buenos Aires colonial, it is the oldest preserved church (from the seventeenth century), a bit of our history.

This church was just opposite our hotel, the outside does not reflect the beautiful interior. It is colourful and peaceful, well worth a visit.

very beautiful example of "colonial"/baroque style church built in the late 1700s. It has recently being refurbished to its grandiose as well as the surrounding streets to make the visit more enjoyable and pleasant. A must do in buenos aires

Finished in 1722, it is part of the Manzana de las Luces. It's a small church with beatiful cealings.

No only this is the oldest building in Buenos Aires, it is also one of the most beautiful. In summer it's a very cool place. The art is gorgeous. It has three naves and a latin-cross plan. In 1955 this building was burnt by the peronists, so the old furniture was lost. But it is still a very nice place.

Staying in Montserrat

Neighbourhood Profile
As part of the historic quarter of Buenos Aires, Montserrat is defined by the historical events that took place there and the landmarks that have stood the test of time. The Plaza de Mayo is at the center of this connection to history: countless public demonstrations have passed through this square, going back to the May Revolution of 1810. Walking the streets of Montserrat allows us to imagine what Buenos Aires may have looked like in the past: the Cabildo takes us back to the late 16th century, while the Palacio Barolo and the traditional cafés carry us to the early 20th. Nowadays, the neighbourhood is inundated every day by office workers, buses, and taxis; still, the cobblestones, narrow sidewalks, and subway stations from the 1910s remind us that we are surrounded by history everywhere we look.
