Visiting the Basilica where Pope Francis was formerly Archbishop was uplifting for a devout Catholic and Christian. magnificent architecture, main Altar, side Altars, statues, paintings and guarded by soldiers in period dress tomb of national hero St-Marten. Free entrance, well worth the visit.

Visited here as a part of a city tour. A beautiful cathedral and all the more interesting as the home of the current Pope. A very interesting changing of the guard taking place in the cathedral. Well worth a visit.

Didn't really learn too much about it though because so tired after the cemetery 2-hour tour! Very pretty inside.

Nothing special really. Nice and it was the home of the current Pope but unless you knew what it was, you would likely miss it.

This cathedral rivals the famous European cathedrals and definitely worth a visit. It is huge, beautiful, quiet and free. You don't need to be religious or spiritual to enjoy it. An 1/2 hour is enough to instill a feeling of awe. Bring your camera.

We had a lovely walk to the Basilica but were sorry to see it closed. The sign posted outside said that it is opened on Sundays from 11 am till 8pm.

As all ornate churches this is a beautiful place to visit as it is elaborate and pleasant to see. It is well kept and a small browse is what is required.

Staying in Retiro

Neighbourhood Profile
Retiro
Exquisite palaces and luxurious apartment buildings combine with art galleries and exclusive boutiques to make Retiro the perfect spot for those who enjoy sophistication. However, the non-stop foot traffic to and from Retiro train and bus terminals, accompanied by the myriad of trucks leaving and arriving at the port, mean this neighbourhood is never truly at rest. One minute you are walking down a street dotted with ornate mansions and luxurious shop windows and the next you find yourself surrounded by a sea of people racing to catch their train or bus. It is this juxtaposition of never-ending comings and goings and quiet, elegant luxury that defines Retiro, as well as Buenos Aires, a city where sharp contrasts are all around.
