This church can be overlooked because of the fame of its neighbor, the Recoleta Cemetery. But do take the time to visit this oasis of calm. It is not overly ornate, but you will be impressed by the altar area. We did not have time to visit the museum, but would encourage you to set time aside to do that.... More

When you go see the Recoleta Cemetery, don't forget to stop by this beautiful basilica. The major altar is a great masterpiece. This is a peaceful place where you can hide from the crowds that visit the cemetery.

A fascinating church building with its attractive, simple exterior and bell towers, and its contrasting, extravagantly baroque interior. It is free to enter except for the cloister part. it is right by the Recoleta cemetery and close to shops and cafes. A nice place to get away from the hustle and bustle outside.

This church is very special, all worked in gold and its architectural baroque style is very beautiful. You should take the opportunity to visit her on the same day which you are visiting the Recoleta cemetery and the Craft Fair from France Square.

Before or after visiting the Recoleta Cemetery, check out the Basilica del Pilar Church right next door. And don’t miss the Cloisters museum upstairs. It’s about 20 pesos (US1.35) to enter. They have a very interesting and eclectic collection of old church articles. I was really taken by the tall dolls, who are dressed in church gowns. They are beautiful... More

A fascinating juxtaposition of simplicity and excess. A spiritual experience in a very special basilica beside the Recoleta Cemetary.

It's right next to the cemetery so it's convenient to just pop in for a look. It's really quite beautiful inside with the baroque style decor and they have a small museum in the cloisters area with 3 floors where you can enter to see old relics for 20 peso. It's worth checking it out as I find it quite... More

This church is right next to cemetery. Free admission. This church is a small one but yet has many pretty ornaments.

I recommend visiting this beautiful basilica. The interior is spectacular. Ensure you visit the cloisters and small museum, the fee is only 2 pesos.

Staying in Recoleta

Neighbourhood Profile
Recoleta
Characterised by the French-style mansions which are the legacy of its aristocratic past, Recoleta is the true “Paris of the South.” Walking around this neighbourhood is an experience like no other in Buenos Aires: its streets are lined with elegant apartment buildings, exclusive boutiques, and former mansions turned into high-end hotels and embassies, which exude an alluring air of sophistication and class. You'll also find a rich cultural scene centred on the National Museum of Fine Arts, the National Library, and the Recoleta Cultural Center; as well as some great shopping spots, like the Buenos Aires Design Mall with an artists' fair set up in Plaza Francia every weekend.
