If you have very short time in San Juan, make sure that you visit Casa Natal de Sarmiento. I visited with my son who did not speak Spanish, and they arranged a special tour for him. La Casa Natal de Sarmiento is definitely worth a quick visit if you have a couple of days in San Juan and are interested in what is a significant piece of Argentinas history. The guided tour is excellent. The guide person was very engaging, showin a visionary Sarmiento and how importantly he influenced education in Argentina and Chile

we had a tour with a guide. The group was to big , we did not hear very well the explanation of the guide. It was worth to see the house of Sarmiento.

In the middle of Sarmiento there is a little grassy patch with the coloured, life size statues of two criollo horses. These are the local horses that Tschiffley rode from Buenos Aires to New York, arriving in 1925 or thereabouts.
