This is the worst review I've given and I feel bad giving it but I have to tell the truth, whilst the drive to the Salinas Grandes was spectacular at times, the salt flats themselves were really not much to write home about. There were a couple of stalls there selling artesian ware and empanadas and a small tourist office.... More

It is a long ride from san salvador de jujuy (the capital) so i strongly suggest to start the day with full tank!! There are NO service stations on the way!!! Also, you cross a part of the Ands mountain and reach a pick of 4150m!! So you might feel nauseous!! The road is very curly. The locals suggest to... More

If you go, make sure to go when the sky is clear. Pictures don't do this place justice. Must see, if you are in Jujuy. Totally worth the drive.

Awesome salt flats on a plateau high in the Andes foothills. Unless you've got a 4x4 or a dirt bike, get there from the Purmamarca direction via paved roads rather than on the teeth rattling dirt track from San Antonio de los Cobres. Once at the salt flats, there's a place to stop (don't use the bathroom facilities - let's... More

65 km away from Purmamarca. First 20 km is fine. Road is well paved. Next 20 km or so are switchbacks. Not so bad. Sections of the road were unpaved. Going up is harder on the car then coming down. One truck had a rock hit its gas tank, so it leaked and had to pull over and wait for... More

About an hour away from the town of Purmamarca, you'll find Salinas Grandes, a salt flat. To get there you'll go through lots of curves up a hill, but the scenery is stunning and it's very much worth it. When you get there you can either chill and take pictures by the entrance (next to the llama) or go by... More

Staying in Tilcara in Jujuy, we took a car trip to the Salinas Grandes. The drive was fabulous, up a winding road through beautiful scenery. There was very little traffic on the road except for very large car transporters bringing cars from Chile to Paraguay. We reached a height of 4300 meters. The weather was ideal. When we got to... My wife & I drove by car from Purmamarca up Route RN-52 and over the summit of Cuesta de Lipan and over towards Chile where there is a vast area of salt flats- the Salinas Grandes. Whilst seeing the salt flats was good, we liked the journey even more, with varied coloured mountains, Guanacos at lower levels and Vicunas and... More

do not miss going to the salinas. the trip is fascinating, the sights are breathtaking and the experience is worth the inconvenience of height. on the way you travel at 4300 m above sea level, and that can be an inconvenient for anyone with a heart or pulmonary disease. Check with your physician before planning the trip, It is really... More
