A great building

An easy In-the-square experience. The building might be as interesting as the collection and there were various "stories" available for telling about different periods, leaders, religious aspects, money and coinage (which, given Argentina's financial struggles can well be placed in a museum). A good way to learn a bit in 45 minutes. The story telling aspects could be improved but... More

The Cabildo in Salta is one of the buildings surrounding the city's central square. Housed inside is an interesting collection of historical artifacts covering the pre-colonial, colonial, and post-independence periods of Salta up to about the early 20th century. When I first entered I didn't realize how large the collection was--it can easily take up an hour or more of... More

Exclusive (they said) but expensive for artisanal products where you can actually find just right the artisanal market outside the premises for a way better price than this place offers.

This museum is right at the square and worth a visit and very interesting but essentially all the information was in Spanish so foreign visitors do not get the full benefit of the visit. The building is old and good and they have done a good job with the displays but not that good for non Spanish speaking tourists

With the exception of the opening audio presentation, it's all in Spanish. So if you don't read Spanish you will be stumbling, but it's still rather obvious what's going on and it's only 20 pesos to enter so it's well worth your time. Lots of history of the area from the indigenous to the 1900's. A very cool 1911 Renault... More

This historic townhouse is splendid and it is really worth spending some time in its patios and balcony. The exhibition is certainly less interesting unless you're a fan of paintings of old generals or of parts of destroyed churches. There are however a few informative artifacts, and it was nice learning about the history of transportation in the area.

Interesting exhibition about the history of Salta with a lovely array of artifacts from different periods. All set in a very beautiful old building with a truly lovely courtyard full of orange flowers. Was an informative experience and also a nice shady indoor break during a very sunny day.

Certainly worth a visit is you are in the Plaza. Pity none of the exhibitions are translated into English. Understand we are in Argentina, but would be nice if even there was a shorter summery for each room.
