Wonderful views and a great place to "cool off" in the Tucson heat

Very enjoyable drive with great vistas and some great hikes. Definitely recommend at least a half day out here.

On our way back to Phoenix from southeastern Arizona, we took a detour and drove up the Mount Lemmon Parkway to Summerhaven. It was a beautiful drive with many places to pull over and enjoy the view of the Santa Catalina mountains, Tucson, and the Oro Valley on the back side. You rise from about 2400 ft in Tucson to... We rode our motorcycle up the Mount Lemmon Highway with friends. The views of Tucson are near breath taking. Multiple pull out spots to park and view are all along the roadway. In addition to the views down the valley, the geological sights along the road are as thrlling. "HooDoos" line the roadway in many places as well as other... More

Uploaded the app "Mt. Lemmon Science Tour" which narrated our trip up the mountain. It was very helpful and explained the origins of the mountains and variations in vegetation. There are impressive views of the valley of Tucson and the surrounding mountains and the hoodoo rock formations. There are many vista points along the way that offer good stops to... More

The beautiful and scenic drive to the top provides numerous scenic overlook stops allowing the traveler to basque in the Sonora Desert beauty. We were interested in exploring the snow on top of the Santa Catalina Mountains so headed up the Mount Lemmon Scenic Highway. There are lots of vistas/turnoffs to stop in and walk a little ways to explore some canyons and sometimes some information points. They describe this as driving from Mexico to Banff, Alberta and that was exactly how it... More

When driving up to Summerhaven, it is worthwhile to stop at the turn offs that have educational signs that explain the origins of the mountains, why they are so unique, what hoodoos are, and what wild life abound. There are plenty of hiking trails. The vistas are exquisite.

The Santa Catalina Mountains are beautiful enough when you look up at them from Tucson, but when you take that road up to Mount Lemmon, that is when your breath is taken away. The vistas, the panoramas, and the stacked rock formations along the road are nothing short of stunning. The road takes you up further than 8000 feet, and... More
