It is a great place to hike, but if you do not like the heat do not go between May and October. It is best in December. Still, bring plenty of water. It has great views and is always rated as one of the best hikes anywhere. There are 2 hiking trails, Echo Canyon and Cholla. Both trails are difficult.... More

This mountain is best viewed from the airport. We drove for miles to get a good photo, but we could never get close enough for an unobstructed view.

We took Echo Canyon Trail to get to the top of Cambelback Mountain to watch the sunrise, which was beautiful. The hike is difficult and steep. I would not recommend this during the summer heat. Also bring water and go slow if you are a beginning hiker. The parking lots fills up fast on weekends, but parking spaces do open... More

This is a really great hike. The view of the "Valley of the Sun" is spectacular. Phoenix and sixteen surrounding cities and towns is something to see. Summer is not a good time to take this hike if you are not in good shape. If you go, take PLENTY of water.

The Echo Canyon Trail at Camelback Mountain is one of the best hikes in Phoenix. The parking lot fills fast and there is usually a long wait time to park during peak times. This hike is not fit for everyone, as it is challenging, people often have to be rescued due to dehydration, exhaustion, etc. If you are not used... More

Camelback Mountain is the beautiful landmark of Phoenix..visible pretty much from everywhere you go. Two trail heads to hike it..Echo Canyon (very strenuous) and Cholla (more gradual). We walked up a short distance at Echo Canyon to take photos..beautiful views! Read the hiking reviews before attempting..very steep with loose gravel!
