A very scenic place to visit

We went here primarily to see birds, but the scenery itself is also very nice, especially the high view of the box canyon.

This was a nice place to escape the hot Arizona sun and run into some happy birds - trees, water. It's not spectacularly beautiful but if you're in Safford and looking for some wildlife, it's worth the drive

The Gila Box RNCA is a must visit, in my opinion. One of the largest rivers in Arizona flows through it, as well as several perennial creeks - each with it's own spectacular little side canyon - there are Bighorn sheep, coatimundi's, and around 200 bird species. There are cliff dwellings and historic cabins. You can hike for many miles... More

Came out with my dogs and daughter, there was no one else around as we walked down the river. Great spot for a hike, but it was quite hot in July!

The GILA Box is one of our best backyard playgrounds around. The Safford, AZ area is wonderful place. We are blessed to live in a valley that in one direction we have Mt. Graham (The Pinal Mtn. Range) and the GILA River Box. Spring time is especially a great time. It is green. The Gila River and Bonita Creek run... More

The only reason to go out with the family and friends to enjoy themselves in a area that is not far from home. The place is very good for a family outing.

This area was excellent for all kinds of birds. It was August so migration had begun and there were warblers moving through the area. We went to the Watchable Wildlife area within the conservation area. We noted many camping opportunities which we will take advantage of next time. We also saw a family of Coati which was really great. The... More

Beautiful scenery and an excellent chance to see wildlife. We spotted a Coati by the river. Bumpy drive out, but worth it.

the road into the Gila Box is on the primitive side but the views are well worth it. An enjoyable area to spend a relaxing day.

Gila Box is so beautiful. When we were first driving in, I wanted to turn back so many times, because the road was so bad. It's not like we needed the 4X4, although we had it, it's that it is all gravel, it was dusty, and it was washboard. My back was screaming at me (although I will say, I... More
