We have stopped in this store a number of times as they have a large display of both modern and pawn Native American jewelry for sale. They also offer a number of other Native American items but you have to be aware that while some items may look western they may be in fact imported. While we did purchase some... More

Great place to go to if you are looking for a unique piece of furniture for you home. They also sell arts/crafts and touristy items. We typically stop in a few times per year. In the past I've purchased Talavera China from them as well.

We stop in here every year when we come to Arizona. And usually the staff is super attentive and knowledgeable. But this trip? What a disappointment. The young man working there was a smart aleck and was obnoxious- if a coworker overheard him, nobody stepped forward to assist us or to see if they could close a sale. We've crossed... More

Was specifically looking for some of the 'old pawn' turquoise and found a great selection here, much with the original tickets still on. The staff was nice enough to polish the silver (which had turned black on some of the pieces) for me. The quality was great and the selection was wonderful. I was very pleased with the attention from... More

Even if you are not there to buy, check out Gilbert Ortega's! They have thousands of jewelry items as well as beautiful, one of a kind furniture pieces and décor. A great place to get an introduction to the different styles of Pueblo and Navajo jewelry. Extremely knowledgeable and courteous staff. Some of the most beautiful globes I have ever... More

If you only have the time (or patience) for one Southwest shopping stop, this would be time well spent. There is such a variety of things to view, it's like a store, museum and gallery on one: jewelry, artwork, furniture, Native American artifacts…but none of the kitschy stuff you'll find in other shops.

This is a wonderful, beautiful jewelry, artifact store. Plan to spend a while here. There are so many beautiful things to look at. Many vintage pieces as well as modern day pieces of jewelry, rugs, pottery. I was lucky enough to meet and be waited on by Gilbert's granddaughter. She was knowledgable, patient, and helpful. My friend and I made... More

There are multiple Gilbert Ortega galleries in Old Town Scottsdale. We found some were excellent though - especially the largest one. Huge and varied selection of high-end art from various tribes in the southwest and prices were reasonable - consistent with quality of items.

The two locations in Old Town are owned by feuding Ortega family members. As a result, the jewelry was marked down considerably at the Fifth Avenue branch. The "uptown" location has a bigger selection of merchandise--jewelry, Kachina dolls, sand paintings, baskets, blankets, sculptures, etc. But the service was excellent at both branches. They were so patient with my kids when... More
