One of the greatest improvements to the Sedona area is the highway work between I-17 and 89-A downtown. The widened road and divided highway beyond Bell Rock make the drive a scenic wonder. Thanks to all of the traffic circles the long lines at cross...More

Driving SR 179 is a magnificent introduction to the scenic environs of Sedona. Slow down, observe the speed limit, and take in views that are unsurpassed. This is the best route to approach Sedona. Stop at the Ranger Station to learn what you are seeing....More

We accidentally took this on our way to Red Rock Cafe (you should seriously eat there. Best meal we had on our trip) and it is simply breathtaking. It's a short but very worth it drive and there is even a bike path if you'd...More

Lots of places to pull off and enjoy the views. Plenty of parking and access to hiking trails. Can be crowded, just be patient and enjoy the views. Great signage for pull-offs

Stunning red rocks with plenty of well planned vantage points to be able to take photos safely. Locals are very friendly and will share their knowledge freely. Roads are well marked, easily traveled.

Being a solo traveler it was difficult to drive and take in the beauty of this drive...the hairpin curves were particularly spectacular and breathtaking. I tried to enjoy as many of the pullouts as possible. Surely hope to do this drive again, and be a...More

We drove North from Phonix, and stopped at the southern most ranger station on the byway....that was the best move we could make...we talked to a wonderful volunteer who mapped out our stops. He told us how many miles were in between each stop. He...More

We came into Sedona from Flagstaff (which is a drive of note in itself!-heights, views, curves, lovely evening light, along Oak Creek)-and left via the Red Rock Scenic Byway. The Byway has lots of places to turn off and hike, to photograph incredible views you’ll...More

Well I went up 89 and I'm sorry I didn't go up 179. If I had known the difference then, I would have chosen 179. I would have had more awe seeing Sedona for the first time going north on 179 rather than when I was leaving... More
