Amazing river tour

We had an amazing time paddling up river and floating back down. The tour was great and one of the best outings we had during our month in Costa Rica.

It is so good to be taken in a canoe up a "jungle" river with the sunlight coming through the trees. Jumping in from the shore, floating downstream, swimming under waterfalls....just magic. It is such a welcoming place, highly recommended. Thank you Ricardo.

We walked to the Rio Claro from the Poor Man's Paradise Lodge- this was a lovely 1hr walk along the beach and through the jungle along trails. At the river Ricardo and his wife run "Rio Claro Aventuras". They organise day tours along the river and they also run a turtle conservation project. There were five of us and Jonny... More

Kayaking, canyoning, swimming, floating, naturals jacuzzis, waterfall massages in a wonderful environment - all these activities are combined in this wonderful tour. Compared to other tours in Costa Rica this is quite a cheap one, though one of the most marvelous. Besides the very kind family runs a turtle rescue centre that profits from the income of the tours. I... More

Thank you Ricardo and Mar, not just for the fun kayak trip up Rio Claro, but also for the work you do with the Turtle Conservation Project.

We had a fantastic time paddling up the river, seeing birds and then floating back down on the life vests and jumping off cliffs. We did the shorter tour. If we had more time, would have liked to do the longer tour with the mud. We still got to jump into the river off a cliff and was a blast.... More

Ricardo runs a turtle rescue center at the point where the Rio Claro meets the sea. We made a stop here on our way to Playa San Josecito and were excited to learn about their turtle project and the opportunities for volunteering. Apparently, for 30$/month you get all food and housing plus ability to retreat from a busy life in... More

Rio Claro tours offer canoe tours of the river in 2, 3, or 4 hour versions. All are fairly light on canoeing and involve scrambling around the waterfalls and pools off the river. It's a bit rugged so not great for little kids or some seniors, but very nice for anyone with a sense of adventure who is reasonably fit,... More

We were told we were going to kayak up the river and float back. However, what we were expecting, was to stop half way back through our float and begin a steep climb up slippery rocks using ropes they installed as support. There was an opportunity earlier on in the float to jump off the edge of a cliff- no... More

This tour is a must if you are in the area. The tour is great, the people are wonderful, and the profits all go to saving the turtles. We had a guided canoe trip and it really put us in touch with the fantastic biodiversity of the forrest and the river. We climbed up a series of waterfalls with some... More
