There are many trails for walking/hiking in this area. Pick up a map with listings and descriptions. We hiked the Orange Trail - Sellaekur Waterfalls. It was gorgeous. Part of it is along a creek with waterfalls and part is through a forest of trees...More

Hallormsstaðaskógur (Hallormsstaður Forest) is one of my favourite places in Iceland to wander and explore to my heart's content. There are a few camping areas available to be used, and they are all lovely (although we had trouble finding staff to pay for our night...More

We found the Forestry Reserve to be a peaceful little part of Iceland, far removed from many of the sites more overrun with tourists. While it's certainly similar to many of the forest and lakes you'll find in eastern Canada or the north-eastern United States,...More

Yes, and quite a beautiful one. Huge effort has been made to bring trees back to Iceland. This one is the biggest and was started over a century ago. Many possibilities for beautiful walks.

Iceland has taken steps to bring the trees back and if you love nature visit Hallormsstadur. I did an ATV tour and there is something about a forest that makes life's problems go away. There are no mosquitoes in Iceland.

There aren't a lot of trees in Iceland! This was a nice forest for a pre-dinner walk. There are walks of lots of different lengths (we found a map in Egilsstadir info centre). We only did a couple of kilometres, but it was lovely and...More

There was not much there other than a pleasant drive through the trees. We did not have time to stop and hike and did not stay at the hotel in that area.

This is a good 3-4 km walk/hike through some of the only 'woods' we saw in Iceland, so it was a treat. There's a bit of an uphill stretch, but the resulting view at the top is worth it. Evens out for a nice walk...More
