About
Laugarvatn Fontana is composed of a series of interconnected baths and steam rooms that complement each other to create a healthy, natural and unique spa experience.Three steam rooms, collectively called GUFAN, have been built over a natural hot spring that has been used since 1929. The temperature of the steam varies depending on the temperature of the hot spring and weather, usually between 40°C (104°F) and 50°C (122°F). Humidity is very high in the steam room cabins. Grids in the floor of the steam rooms allow guests to hear and smell the boiling natural hot spring underneath, creating a natural and totally unique experience. Next to the steam room is YLUR, a Finnish-style sauna. The temperature is between 80°C (176°F) and 90°C (194°F), with a lower humidity than the steam room having a big window facing the lake of Laugarvatn. LAUGA, SÆLA, and VISKA are interconnected outdoor mineral baths that vary in depth, size and temperature. Some areas are suitable for relaxation and others offer space for movement and playfull moments. Stone artwork made by Icelandic artist, Erla Thórarinsdóttir, enhance each visitor’s experience. VISKA, the hot tub, is built at a slightly higher level than the other baths, providing a panoramic view of the beautiful surroundings while the healthy water nourishes both body and soul.Completing the ensemble are VATNIÐ and STRÖNDIN — the lake and the beach. Visitors will reach VATNIÐ through a gate. STRÖNDIN has warm black sand, which has been shown to be beneficial for those suffering from arthritis and other joint illnesses. VATNIÐ provides an opportunity to cool down between visits to GUFAN and YLUR, a temperature shift that is both healthy and strengthening

We went for the geothermal bakery and it was an amazing exerience! Truly can’t see anything like it except here. Our guide was so informative and interacted with us so it was fun and entertaining as well as so unique! The bread was good afterwards as well, paired with homaed butter and smoked trout! Definitely a just must do experiment if you’re in Iceland.

Do yourself a favor and check out this wonderful place if you are traveling around Iceland. My travel partner and I signed up to observe how rye bread is naturally baked using the geothermal ground this place sits on, and took advantage of their beautiful geothermal baths, steam rooms, sauna and the cold but refreshing laugarvatn lake. We had such a wonderful experience and would go back in heart beat! The staff is kind, knowledgeable and very helpful and this place provides a sense of intimacy that other relatable hot spring experiences do not.

It was truly a magical place. Hearing about the history of the area and seeing how they made the bread was phenomenal. More than anything I appreciate our guys time and expertise. Finally the bread and fish was delicious!

Hot pools, steam rooms, sauna, and a cold lake—if you can do all of it you are a champion spa-goer! We managed the hot pools and the milder of the steam rooms—the lake was just too cold for us oldsters. Still, we had a great time, left the baths totally relaxed, and wish we could have returned many more times on our brief trip around the Golden Circle.

Visited here after paddle boarding the lake with Laugarvatn Adventures. I loved the lake and the steam rooms and sauna! The baths are great too but I would come back entirely for the steam rooms and cold plunge into the lake.

What an amazing place. Five pools of different temperatures, saunas, and a huge natural lake to take the cold plunge!
Very clean with changing facilities, food and drinks available as well.
The views from the pools over the lake and the surrounding mountains where fantastic.
It was very quiet when we arrived as well, approx midday on a Saturday.
A definite recommend at a fraction of the blue lagoon prices.

It was rejuvenating! Make sure you go and have a dip in the cold lake as well. There is also a sauna and a few steam room. I did a rye bread tour which lasts about 30 minutes and booked the spa right after eating the delicious rye bread baked in the boiling volcanic sand.
