Just a few minutes walk from the hotel, is the old fortress of "Fredriksten Festning" With historical preference to the killing of the Swedish king in the war between Norway and Sweden, to the use of the fortress in WW2.

Such a great piece of history. I attended with a family member that told me the history of the fortress, which really helped. But the fortress has some great views of the city below. Definitely worth attending!

Fredriksten Festning was built in 1661, and was used by Norwegian military untill 1905 at the liberation of Norway in the shooting between Norway and Sweden. You will reach to the top of the fortress in about 10 minutes walk from the centre of Halden.
