As we were staying nearby we decided to visit the castle and I'm so glad we did. We arrived just as all the stables in the village were turning out the horses and jockeys to train....what a wonderful sight.....never seen so many together in the streets. The castle was very interesting.......I hadn't even heard of this place until today........and the... More

We stop in here on the way somewhere else and we're very glad we did. Staff are lovely and super helpful and you can spend a good hour or 2 exploring the castle ruins and grounds. The spiral staircase to the tower is definitely worth it for some stunning views even on a rainy day.

As we were based in York we thought this was a castle worth visiting due to its relative intactness and to make use of a recently purchased English heritage membership. We visited this castle on the way to Richmond (and another castle)! The castle is perhaps best known as the castle where what would become King Richard 3rd spent much... More

Having read a lot about Richard III and Anne Nevill, I wanted to see for myself where they lived for a large part of their eventful lives. A few more information boards would have been useful, but I guess I could have bought the guide book to find more information. Great views from the top, beautiful scenery all around, lots... More

The castle at Middleham is where Richard the third grew up.Since he came to every ones attention after his remains where found it is interesting to find out about him and what his life would have been like, he seemed to spend most of it fighting. Not surprising he was the last king to lead from the front.

Interesting history and a lovely view from the top. Some information boards and a small exhibit at the start but would have been nice to have more around the castle or an audio guide.

The drive from Ilkley to Middleham was worth the visit alone. Breathtaking views of the Dales with stunning views when you get to the peaks. I felt quite sorry for the cyclists! It was a beautiful sunny, warm spring day and we parked in the picturesque village and walked a few minutes to the castle. We were warmly greeted by... More

Firstly lets set the record straight...the wooden stairs are in no way rickety and the spiral stairs inside the castle are concrete so you will be perfectly safe going all the way to the top for a magnificent view. Being the favourite home of Richard III there are always Ricardians there who would be delighted to explain the castle's history... More

Although it was February when we visited it was all closed, so we could not go inside, but could see that there was only a wooded hut through the arch way. We walked all round the out side of the castle, and could see a wooded stairway up to the top looked rickety, most of it has fallen down. We... More
