As my family are National Trust members, and this place is only a 10 minute drive away, we are here quite frequently. The house is well laid out and has some interesting artifacts. The gardens are a pleasant walk. They also have other things going on most weekends. They do Easter Egg Trails, Treasure Hunts, Themed Walks and all that... More

Lacock Abbey is a National Trust property. It is interesting for a number of reasons. It was originally a convent which was suppressed during the reign of Henry VIII. It was then purchased by William Sharington. Henry Fox Talbot, a photography pioneer, lived there in Victorian times. There is a photography museum there. My favourite area is the cloisters. Be... Lovely Abbey. Perfect if you like Harry Potter! (They filmed here). We enjoyed the history and the staff were very knowledgable and helpful. The cafe - this was a slight disappointment. They had run out of white bread (my children hate brown seeded bread). Not much else for them to choose as the sandwich was part of the kids meal.... More

We stopped here in our motorhome on our way home. Enjoyed the Abbey (always great when the sun shines) and had a picnic on the grass next to the NT car park. The Abbey has some great rooms and the history is interesting too. We enjoyed the shopping in the village (viewing only!).

Very surprising what you can learn when you take the time to visit these historical old places and their links with modern science.

National Trust property in a lovely village. Lots of photogenic scenes. Interesting connection with William Fox Talbot, the British pioneer of photography.

We had a great day out, we are national trust members already and paid an additional £2 for our granddaughter to take part in the Easter egg hunt! She loved it, we had no problems with the access due to her being in a wheelchair she managed to access all the grounds. We didn't go into the house so can't... More
