Set in the peaceful Wiltshire countryside beside a lake, Old Wardour Castle, near Tisbury was once one of the most daring and innovative homes in Britain. It was built in the 14th century as a lightly fortified luxury residence for comfortable living and lavish entertainment. Today the castle ruin provides a relaxed, romantic day out for couples, families and budding historians alike.

One of my most favourite places, I grew up near here and came here a lot, walking and riding in the woods behind the castle. Lovely walks in the woods behind the castle and hidden gems, Keep a look out!

Visited the castle on quite a dull day. The car park was quite and so was inside. The road up to the castle is single track and tricky at times but fine for cars. There is a lovely lake next to the castle which on...More

Very picturesque and well worth a visit. Dog friendly and a great picnic area. A few mile from main road but signposted at each junction.

Confession - only only the wish list to visit as it was used in Prince of Thieves, well worth the trip. Access to the castle is down some pretty narrow lanes, a test of nerve for some drivers but as long as you take it...More

Our kids always complain when we head out to castles. And yet they always love the hide and seek, the running around ruins, exploring rooms and dark spiral staircases! Same at Wardour, were on the Summer Aug Bank Holiday the staff laid on plenty of...More

Let's take the children to Old Ward our Castle said our daughter. We agreed, despite holding secret reservations that they may not be keen on seeing an old ruin. How wrong I was. Like others that day, we were all in for a fabulous day...More

We've never had any problems. Check on the website to see if there are any restrictions. Some of the staircases are really steep and unsuited to dogs. The grounds are great though.
