Hikers and trailrunners paradise -- guided tour isn't necessary!  My wife and I spent 5 days on Rapanui and had a fantastic time there to check off another bucket list adventure.  We stayed at the Puku Vai Hotel and hiked from there to Orongo Rano...More

I hiked up the east side of Rano Kau with amazing guide Cecilia from Easter Island Spirit (see separate review). The hike was vigorous, about an hour or so up, through varied terrain - grasses, dense vegetation, and rocky at times - best to wear...More

The hike up Rano Kau is well worth it! The views from the volcano are spectacular and looking down into the volcano's crater is breathtaking. You start your walk at the visitor's center where you learn a great deal about the history of the area....More

The caldera plays a crucial role in the island's history. It was a source of fresh water. It was home to a strange cult. It was a refuge. More recently Rapamycin was discovered here, one of the most important medical breakthroughs of the past 50...More

This excellent Caldera and volcano are protected as a World Heritage listed RAMSAR Wetland and tourists are not allowed to go down into the caldera. It has a lot of reed covered water throughout the centre with planted fruit trees around the edges.

Rano kau is one of the volcanoes that formed easter island, now the lowest but most impressive. You can take a 5K hike from town or drive to it. There's also Orongo, a small ritual village by its side.

Very close to Orongo you have a very good view of the crater that imploded 2.5 million years ago. You can take pictures from different angles. This is the highest point in the island. Worth you time.

What a great place to visit. At first it was raining and misty, but once it had cleaned it had fantastic views. Well worth making the 6 hour trip by plane to get to Easter Island - Its a must see on any bucket list

This is the site of the most diverse wildlife on the island. Because of this you are no longer walk down to the lake side. You still get fantastic views of the swamp and the rest of the island. You visit here by driving or...More
