This is the largest display of Moai. They were toppled during the tribal wars and swept inland by a tidal wave -- however, they were eventually set back in their original positions, facing inland. The site is large so take some time to look all around.

We visited around 11am but there were only about 10 other people there in mid April. Plenty of parking at all the sites on Easter Island and I recommend hiring a car. This was so breathtaking. Make sure you walk around the back too. Managed to get a great shot of galloping horses in front of the statues!

We first came upon Tongariki by accident the first day we arrived in Easter Island. The sun had already set, but this amazing Ahu was so striking. We soon found out that it is the place where the sun rises, and went back the second day to see the sunrise here. Many people gathered, actually quite quietly as we waited... More

The last stop on our very rushed Easter Island tour from the cruise ship was Ahu Tongariki, site of the largest ahu on the island, set against the background of the sea and cliffs are 15 moai. it was absolutely spectacular, amazing, everything we hoped. A tidal wave in 1960 forced the moai, many weighing up to 80 tons, to... More

We visited this site as part of a photo tour, so we were there twice, at sunrise for silouette photos and in teh afternoon when the Moais were front lighted. It is a stunning place.

What can you say? Just WOW! The Moai monoliths here are so amazing. The view of the rocky beach, cliffs and ocean are absolutely beautiful. I have seen so many pics but truly they do not give it justice. We were told that a japanese company had donated the money and equipment necessary to bring this site back to life... More

After touring the quarry to see how the Moai are constructed, just down the road from the quarry stands this magnificant site. 15 standing Moai and one face down in front of the ceremonial platform. Its a terrific site, and lots of good pictures to be taken...and another reason to have a good guide with you.

One of the most important sites of the island! Strongly recommended very early in the morning 7:30 am, so you can take the best pics of the Moais!

This is truly one of the top 2 attractions on the island, the other is the quarry Rano Raraku. Here are 15 large Moai near the coast facing inland. Spend some time here. Walk the entire perimeter. Don't miss the lone standing Moai, the broken lying Moai and the toppled red hair buns. There's also a mock up of a... More

You have come to Easter Island to see the Moai and found a lot that have been toppled, and then you reach this site. Here you will find a breathtaking row of 15 giant statues and you will take the photos that will define your trip and bore the folks back home to death. It's true that these have been... More
