They only let you go over completely picked over dirt. Sometimes they drop in new dirt from their real mine but most of the crystals you'll find there are shattered. Not even allowed to actually mine, just dig through dirt. If you want a real...More

We have been to Ron Coleman Mining several times now. It is easy to get to, all the access roads are paved. The parking area for the store/museum is well maintained. You can park at the entrance to the digging area once you have paid...More

Friendly staff, close by facilities and good exposure to the workings of a pit mine. Whither you find something is up to you. We bought some of our best crystal displays from the shop that was yet to be cleaned. We took a few hundred...More

When I was digging I saw that there were no good crystals and no colored ones I went into the gift shop and they had a bunch of them they leave us with the usual crystals and keep all the gems and rubies to themselves.

One of the main reasons we chose to vacation in Hot Springs was so I could do the crystal mining. It did not disappoint. We did the tour which was interesting and then went out and searched for crystals. Good time for all!

I took my 13 year old son here and he loved it! In fact, he told me we should have just gone here instead of going to Crater of Diamonds State Park first - this was much more exciting to actually find lots of quartz....More

This was our fifth year of mining for crystals in Arkansas. In the past during each visit we went to several different mines (there's about half a dozen currently open to the public) but this year it was just Ron Coleman, mostly because we consistently...More

This place is really cool. There are crystals everywhere. They are easy to dig for and they bring out fresh loads often. Our three and seven year old grandsons enjoyed digging. We cant wait to go back.

Digging for crystals at Ron Coleman Mine is a required part of our Hot Springs visits. We've been lucky to always find a good collection of crystals when we've visited. The visit just a couple days ago was wonderful. The weather was perfect! Sunny and...More

My husband and I went to Ron Colemans Crystal Mine 20 years ago and there was crystals every place. We filled 2 5gal buckets and still had to carry some clusters. After reading the reviews I am concerned about what it is like now. We are planning on going back Sept. 22nd with some friends. They were bringing up new piles dumping them several times a day when we were there. It sounds like the crystals are not plentiful like they were 20 years ago. Some reviews said they dug for hours and didn't find anything. And some reviews said they didn't bring up new piles to dig thru and some said the piles were 4 days old. I would really like to know the truth before we drive from Indiana to Ark. to dig crystals at Ron Colemans.

My family has gone to Hot Springs every year for crystal hunting, but have always gone to the Jim Coleman mines. We were thinking of spending one day at the Ron Coleman mines. We usually drive directly to the site so we can start early. How early can we start and what are the best directions to get directly to the site?
