A very enjoyable tour showing the traditional lifestyle of the people from Tanna Island. Needs to have improvement but for a tour that is new it was very good

Enjoyable adventure and is certainly off the beaten track and we found it interesting that you are able to see tradition that is many generation old still being used today.

The Kustom village tour takes you off the beaten track in Tanna. Its a small village, with the residents living as their forefathers did. With such tours you can be skeptical as to how genuine they are, but this one did appear to be the real thing. Our guide the village chiefs wife showed a lot of interest and was... More

This tour started with a 45-minute drive from our hotel into the hinterland of Tanna Island, Vanuatu. Distance-wise, it’s not very far but the roads are in a very poor state and it takes a long time to get anywhere. The tour provided a fascinating insight into tribal life as it used to be. There are no mod-cons, cell phones,... More

This is a wonderful place. I would recommend watching Tanna the movie first or at least buying it in the village when you visit and try and but some of the gifts they offer. I'd also say try getting your guest house to pay the village whilst you are there...that way all your money goes to the village and not... More

Go. Just go. If you're travelling to Tanna, you're probably the kind of person that is interested in getting off the beaten track and up for an adventure. Yakel is unique in that the chief of the village decided years ago to preserve Tanna culture and ways of traditional living, for example, through wearing kastom dress (grass skirts and nambas)... We mainly went to Tanna to see Mount Yasur but I'm glad we stayed an extra night so we had the opportunity to visit Yakel Village. The tour was arranged through Evergreen Resort where we stayed (which I would thoroughly recommend!). We were transported to the village in a jeep and met there by a guide who showed us round... The closest you will ever get to living among the native villagers whilst enjoying some creature comforts... Tanna Island is a MUST and MUCH more enjoyable than Effate if you want to get away from the resort style holiday. The villagers are very warm and welcoming.... when you get lost in the jungle, they will show you the way! Amazing... More

We decided to do Yakel village on a tour from our lodge via quad bike. What an amazing tribe. It was a real eye-opener for our children & a great experience that we all enjoyed. Wether you believe these types of experiences are contrived or not, it was still fascinating to be a part of it & walk around the... More
