Know what to expect

I really wish I could give this a higher rating. The beach here has a beauty all it's own; the coral is breathtaking as the tide comes crashing in, and beautiful in a desolate, melancholy sort of way when the tide creeps its way back out. During low tide, you can walk right out to the coral reef, and during high tide, you can play in the waves; just be mindful of the coral! Reef shoes are a good idea.

The beach is also relatively quiet; at least it was when we were there. There are, of course, the ever present beach boys. Some of them are great and do a good job of building friendly relationships where you trust them enough and give them business. Sampson, Job, and Joseph were great - taking care of my teenagers and looking out for my older in-laws. The draw-back here is that sometimes when you're walking on the beach - you don't really want to stop and have a 20 minute conversation with someone; you just want to be alone with your thoughts, or your camera, or your sweetheart.

The other drawback of the beach here is the debris. Seaweed is one thing, but plastic bottles and broken glass are another. If the beach boys would take a little time to clean things up and take some pride in their beautiful surroundings, the tourists would really appreciate it.

Nice Beach
Aug 2015
If you're looking for some sea, sun and sand this place is just right! Ideal for Day trips for the family for a cool beach picnic. Nice to have some great time with friends too! Quite easily accessible by private car or even public transport.

Wonderful waters
Feb 2015
I simply Love the Indian ocean, from Indonesia through India, Mauritius and here in Kenya's beautiful coast. Parts of the beach have slippery pebbles which become slimey but once past these you enter pure bathwater. So warm!!! Lovely, the warmest waters of the Indian ocean so far. We were not hassled on the beach.

Wild camels on the beach?
Sep 2014 • Family
Too bad the ever-present beach boys don't spend a wee bit of time tidying up their beach. They seemed to think I was nuts for picking up plastic, etc whenever I went for a beach walk. Cool camels. Pushy beach boys.

Time to relax

everything, food, people, and scenery, a poor place but the natives are friendly and helpful, this can be a bit of a bother but if you take pencils and sweets everything is okay.

Beautiful pristine beach, with the High and Low tides playing around with the beach

Disliked the Hawkers who were onto you once out of the resort to sell their wares. The property overlooking this beach was simply awesome.

The reef
Mar 2013 • Couples
Loved being able to walk out and see the corals (deads) aqnd the creatures hiding in the tidal pools. The 2.5 meter high tide covers a lot of real estate. Enjoyed just sitting in a beach chair watching the tide roll away.

You wont get any peace, but you will get great souveniers.

Its a lovely beach but you will bombarded with beach sellers. It is a great place to buy your souveniers but be ready to haggle.

any time of day
Sep 2012 • Family
i have lost count of the number of times i walked along this beach, all times of day and states of the tide. wonderful place to wander along to the ruins, have a swim or snorkel out to the reef. good banter with the beach boys. very safe, even as a lone female. if no conversation is wanted, just say so and you will be left alone. only deal with the licensed boys for trips etc as they have a proper business and wear uniforms and carry visible permits. massage on the beach very good. great bar -kilimanjaro.

Good swimming when high tide but no good when tide is out. Wear something on your feet.
