We visited Lawkananda on the day before the Full Moon Festival, so there were many local tourists, but almost no Western tourists. The atmosphere was lively, and the stupa is attractive, with a riverside location. You can also see the former umbrella from the top of the stupa in a display on the grounds of this Pagoda.

If you get bored of watching sunset on the top of Bagan, go there. You can watch the sunset of Ayeyarwady River as this river is the mother River of Myanmar. You won't get disappointed I swear.

Situated on the banks of the Irrawaddy, and clearly seen standing out above the river, a small golden pagoda good for photography. Not too crowded and said to contain a tooth relic of Buddha.

Worth taking a local guide with you to understand the importance of echo pagoda and temple. We watched the local rituals, families visiting from far and wide to make offerings of food and flowers to Buddha for lost loved ones. Having just been recently re-gilded the pagoda was quite a vision. We were recommended not to try any of the... More

I would go here in the afternoon or early evening before dinner. There are lots of locals hanging out here and they are nice. Watch the unset on the river. Nice.

Located in south of New Bagan remotely from other temple zone, this is another place worth visiting before sunset. Most people are locals, and not too crowded. They surprisingly keep the area clean. View for sunset and riverside is beautiful.

We decided to go to New Bagan to check out the many workshops there but finished them quite early. The Lawkananda was not very far, and we decided to check it out. It was really hot and we had to find a shade as we were not allowed to wear shoes in the pagoda area, but it was very lively... More

A bit off the beaten path. If you stay in New Bagan, and don't feel like taking a trek into Old Bagan, then take a relatively easy walk over to the temple either early in the a.m. or at dusk. (I did both.) The view is quite nice, and the Pagoda enchanting. There are, though, a lot of steps to... More
