This old town in Songkhla has it's own charm, in terms of some of the preserved old buildings and sporadic street art along the alleys. The best way to see the old town is take a slow walk around to check out some of the interesting and historical buildings. You can start from the main gateway, walk around the street and loop back to the main gateway.

I'm impressed here because the space is clean and comfortable. There are speakers to teach knowledge in every room so that he can gain new knowledge about Songkhla. There is a lot of equipment and clear illustrations that make it easy to understand. Even more, the atmosphere at the museum is very good, with beautiful views of Songkhla province in that area.

Old Songkhla is all around you when you walk the streets and quays of the old quarter. There are impressive temples, old buildings and museums and a number of quay side areas where you can get views across the bay and see the ships and boats going about their daily routine. Early morning or late afternoon when it is not too hot is ideal but there are many watering holes where you can partake of a cold drink or ice cream.

The shophouses of the old city are in various states of decay and restoration and are an interesting mix of Thai and Chinese architectural styles. Temples and shrines hide among the streets and alleys and just wandering around the city guarantees you will find something unexpected and beautiful. Speaking of unexpected and beautiful. Old Town Songklah boasts some fantastic street art. Some of the artworks are hidden along the narrow streets, while others are plastered in large scale on the facade of buildings along the main streets. In one mural, a man reclines in a chair while his soup cools on a table under a window. The window is real, but the man, the soup and the chair are all painted. These illusory works of art are flanked by more abstract works, including a beautiful black and white one with flowing lines and shapes that carries the message of "no plastic bags". And then a huge pair of sculpted eyes set in the windows of the top floor of a house.

'Could have wandered around for ages and still be discovering new nooks and crannies, treasures and fascinating architecture. Welcoming and well-marked, this area of town is seriously switched-on to encouraging tourism whilst retaining its charm. Not to be missed!

Feels the feel of the old city. Near the Songkhla Old Town Gate is the Assul Islam Mosque in Songkhla. There are also many halal food restaurants around here such as Melinase Roti. There are also meatballs. Yummy

Kudos to the city for adding informative kiosks (in Thai and English) and maps to this area. Songkhla Old Town is already visually interesting, but actually learning about various locations makes it a much better experience overall. Hopefully the city will add guided 'walking' tours soon too. The street art, old architecture, lovely local food shops are very well balanced and aside from the way too many big cars parked along the streets, the community feels very authentic.

The Songkhla Old Town is mainly made up of old preserved charming architecture along three streets a little off the main road in Songkhla.

Apart from the nicely preserved architecture, the empty walls are also decorated with nicely done up murals some depicting the life of old Songkhla to some modern art.

There are also some old temples as well as some great places for food.

A few notable buildings to look out for there includes the old rice mill Hup Ho Hin, Baan Nakhon Nai Museum, and the City Pillar Shrine.

Ban Nakorn Nai Museum has no name in English, not even a Romanised version of its Thai name. See my photo Ban Nakorn Nai Museum 01 for its Thai name. This museum was originally a wealthy man’s mansion. It is the best sight at Songkhla Old Town. There are many interesting items such as antique furniture, huge porcelain vases, old photos and a well. Upstairs has a glass floor with a huge vase in the corner. Those who like durian should try the durian ice cream which is shaped like a durian seed and tasted really good.
On the other side of the street, a very short distance to the right is another interesting place with a strange name “Songkhla Towards World Heritage Site”.
