Along the creek in Castro, viewed from a roadside mirador, is a large number of these constructions, many turned from dwellings into coffee bars and small restaurants. Ironically they are all on public land so none of the owners have any title deeds Make a...More

We had read so much about the houses on stilts (Palafitos) in Chiloe. While they are interesting to look at in Castro, they are not a destination. If you are going to be in Chiloe for some other reason, then they are worth a look....More

Come see the unusual houses set in a very pretty background. This is a lovely part of the world and we are happy we visited.

It was worth seeing, I love waterfronts and this was a great one, shame there’s a lack of places to go inside or onto decking

We stopped in to see the colorful houses on stilts. The water was a little low but it was still beautiful.

We made this a destination. My wife had this on her bucket list. Personally after seeing it I could think of 1000 different things to do other than come to see this. However it was neat to see a few colored houses on stilts. It...More

We walked around and looked at the stilt houses from the beach and road however it was low tide so they didn’t look really special. I wouldn’t make a special trip to see them - look much better in photos than reality. There are some...More

We have booked 3 nights in Castro based on all the advertising related to the great and unique stuff to be done and see here; well, unfortunately we were disappointed. To sum it up: Overpriced and overrated - not that many things to do, struggled...More

We stopped and looked for about 15 minutes. Definitely worth doing if on Chiloe. We did not enter any and perhaps that is worth doing and would make for a higher rating. Pictures you find in guidebooks are as these stilt houses really look and...More

We stopped in the small parking lot to take some photos of these colorful houses on stilts at the water's edge. Both times we drove by, it was low tide. I think the photos would have been better at high tide. Worth a few minutes...More

Yes, I came in by ship and it was walkable from the dock, a lot closer than town. If I remember correctly, I could see it from the ship.
