Surprises round every turn

We were surprised by just how grand this, often very narrow gorge really is. And the frequent surprise sights on the way are a real reward for the effort

the siq is a winding route bordered with canyons on both sides. siq winds between massive red canyons which seem to change colour with change in sun's position. the siq leads you from petra entrance all the way to the treasury. it is about 2 miles long. while i feel the walk is best enjoyed on foot, if you are... The siq is incredible. The multihued stone which changes colour in the light, the abundance of carvings and points of interest on the way make this an experience in itself. We travelled with our children aged 5 and 10. We managed with a small lightweight stroller when the younger one got tired. Some short stretches required us to pick up... More

I walk the Siq both at night and during the day, i prefer night time even though it is a cool place to take refuge after a long day under the blazing sun.

The walk thru the Siq and into the temple of dome is absolutely stunning. The different rock formations and shades of sandstone are beautiful. The trek right to the top of the monastery was so worth it. Make sure you wear good walking shoes as the steps can be a little slippery with the sand on them. You can take... More

petra is a huge site with only one entrance - through the siq. siq is about 2 mile long with amidst the canyons. the rocks are delightfully red in colour. our guide showed us the drainage system carved into the canyons. the best part about the walk through the siq is the end. the siq opens up to the magnificent... The Siq is a narrow gorge entering the main city of Petra. It is fascinating to see how water was channelled towards the city through carved water ways and how the stretch has been cleared to make way for both people and horse carriages.

The sky viewed from inside the siq has an amazing colour. Beautiful rock formations combined with the nuances of red from iron oxides and manganite give you a simphony of colours and an amazing experience. In top of all you will see the workmanship of engineers and scloptors from that times.

Its primarily a walkway into the main site, but there are little bits to see along the way - we had a guide with us explaining things to us and pointing out the various bits to see, which was interesting!
