When Petra has so many amazing things to see, the effort involved in walking up to the High Place of Sacrifice is not in my honest opinion worth the effort. It's tough on the legs and anyone suffering ill health should not do it. There's...More
The walk up wasn't too bad- over 600 steps, a bit tricky in some parts. It's badly signed so we almost didn't see the place of sacrifice....luckily a crazy Bedouin woman rushed out screaming at us to go up, go up! We got there after...More
We were there before sunset - where you get a good view and superb light / pictures from Wadi Musa. Hidden path (on maps.me you find it - but they have taken down the road sign) from the HighPlaceOfSacrifice to The Treasury from Above -...More
happy, that there was not so many tourists in this trail. very good views to Petra, good hike.
we hiked aprox 3-4 hour (with kids) - there is info, that trail is hard to hike - but for me it seems very easy level.
The hike up was a lot of up with stone steps leading the way to the top. It is a short but strenuous hike. When we got to the actual sacrifice spot, the views really opened up and Petra looked stunning in the sunlight and...More
For us was nicer and more worth the effort the Monastary trail. This is more difficult and if you do it in one day it will be killing you. The views from there are nice still not spectacular. Anyhow, I reccomend visiting the entire complex....More
Great hike and interesting sites. Take some water with you. Stopped at a "vendor" on the way back down. She was very pleasant, had a little baby, and remembered that I'd promised to stop by on my way back down and see her wares. Got...More

The High Place of Sacrifice is in Petra. If you have not done that then do the whole hike starting at the Basin Restaurant then descending into the amphitheater near the Treasury. There is hardly anyone on the route and you will have amazing tombs to yourself. The view from the top is amazing as is the alter carved unit rock. To get there you have to scramble up a sloping rock at the very top. A number of people don't do this and miss the sacrificial alter and the amazing views.
