We walked to this attraction after seeing the great temple. It has some beautiful mosaic work on the floor and ruins from the past. Its a bit of a climb in the heat. But the church itself is covered to protect the mosaics

Not quite as ancient as the Great Temple area so worth a visit to see development. Was being renovated when we were there.

The mosaics are the main item of interest. Not much else to see there, but there are a few other things nearby.

The Byzantine Church is located some way off the main trail in Petra and it is an archaeological dig worth visiting; you'll see the layout of the church as well as the alter. One of the most intriguing aspects is the mosaic tiling that depicts...More

As with all Petra carvings, the time of year and time of day determine the view you get of the carvings--whether they stand out sharply or fade in the sunlight will determine your view and photographs. When you stop and think about what you are...More
