Well maintained, gateway to the past

Well maintained and protected from the hustle bustle of a typical tourist city/town. But the place can be avoided during summers.

Temples and rocks: Wedded form Worked by man Over centuries, Wrought by weather Over eons: Embodied memory, Embodied spirit. Creation and love, Hate and destruction; Lost and found... The power remains.

The whole complex at Hampi Unesco world heritage site is a must see. It is like nowhere else I have ever been and the landscape is gravity defying with huge boulders seemingly balancing on one point of contact. The temples and ruins are quite spread out. You can hire bicycles but it is hot and so an auto is a... More

Hampi itself is just mesmerizing, wherever uou go, you can see the marvel of our lost kingdom. Vithala Temple complex is a engineering marvel. It has got pillars which sounds like musical instruments. The chariot, the way temples have been done is outstanding. Being a travel enthusiast, I was completely awe struck.

Vittala temple is the most famous and well-known monument among the ruins of Hampi. The temple is dedicated to Hindu God Vishnu and was built in 15th century AD. The temple work started during the rule of the King Krishnadevaraya but could not be completed and consecrated. The highlight of Vittala temple is its impressive musical pillared halls and the... This is very beautiful and must visit place in Karnataka or south India. This is spread in large area and spread over many acres. Take a guide to understand this fully and take atleast half to full one day to tour and understand. Overall the place needs better management from authorities as it has potential to earn lot of revenue.... More

An impressive site. Plan on 60-90 minutes if you take the 10 INR golf cart ride in each direction. A guide is useful. He will show you how the granite columns produce musical tones. Not in the world's greatest league, but certainly worth the visit. Many parts now suffering from the elements.

On my recent visit to Hampi, visited the famous Vijaya Vitthala Temple. A place worth to visit, which is very rich in history.Musical Pillars and the great stone chariot are the main attractions of this temple. Approx 50 pillars are there in the temple. 8-10 pillars produce sounds similar to Mridangam, Jalatharanga, Sapthaswara, Thalam, Damaru, Calling Bell etc.. The ruins... More

If you have visited the Sun Temple at Konark, you will notice that the Vithala temple complex looks very similar. In fact, I got to know that this temple was indeed inspired by the temple in Konark. Even though the place is in ruins like the rest of Hampi, it still retains the grandeur and charm. The main temple itself,... More
