The Zanana enclosure is another magnificent piece of architecture of Vijayanagara Empire. It was a secluded area reserved for the royal ladies of the kingdom. One can also visit the Lotus Mahal and elephant's stable located nearby.

Pricey but worth it the Zenana itself is the least impressive bit of the complex (Lotus Mahal, Elephant Stables etc) house a small museum and a seemingly endless supply of "officials" telling you not to take photos...

built in the indo muslim style of architecture, this is less ornate and houses the elephant stable, lotus mahal and the base of a queen's palace. from near by you can go to the remaind of a jain temple.

The Zanana Enclosure is an area that covers monuments such as the Lotus Mahal, Elephant Stable etc. When we had visited just before the Hampi Festival, there was a lot of activity going on in this area for the upcoming festival. Interesting and well maintained.

The Zanana Enclosure at Hampi was a secluded area reserved for the royal ladies of the Vijayanagara Empire. The enclosure is a huge compound with tall walls surrounding it on all sides and watch towers to keep guard against any trespassers.

The Zanana enclosure has the following monuments inside its limits: - Lotus Mahal -> where king & queens of Vijaynagara empire used to relax from hot weather. - Elephant stable -> where royal elephants were kept. - Museum -> a small museum next to elephant stable - Guard towers The place is very well kept by the ASI.

The stables look really huge and more than just a stable for Elephants; total of 11 number one for the King and the other 10 elephants were used during the Dusshera festival

Near to the elephant stables and an easy walk or better still cycle ride from the village. Entrance fee allows you into other sites on the same day. Shady areas to escape from the midday sun
