When you are in the centre of Sollér keep a lookout for a couple of buildings of interest in the town centre of Soller: one is the church of Sant Bartomeu that dates from 1904 and the other is the façade of Banco de Soller, dating from 1912, that is now the Santander Bank. They were designed as a combination of Gothic and Art Nouveau by Joan Rubio y Bellver, a disciple of Antoni Gaudi but, unlike the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, both buildings in Sollér were completed more than a hundred years ago.
One of the surprising things about Soller is that it may appear to be up in the mountains, but it is not a million miles from the beach and this provides an interesting side trip to Port de Sollér via the Sollér Tramway when you are exploring the town and what it has to offer.
Thanks for reading this and if you found it helpful I’d appreciate a ‘thumbs up’ below.

It was an early winter morning, when I was at Sollér's Plaça Constitució ready for a beautiful day hike. The plane trees at the square had lost their leaves and the cafés were still closed, but what did strike me the most were the facades of two buildings next to each other: the church of Sant Bartomeu (St. Bartholomew) and the Banco de Sollér (now Banco Santander).
There were similarities in the architecture, especially in the rustic appearance of the stone walls. Not surprisingly it was the same architect responsible for it: Joan Rubió from Barcelona, a disciple of Antonio Gaudi. Although the church with its big rose window has neo-gothic elements both buildings are examples of modernista architecture, of Catalan art nouveau.
The church facade dates from 1904, while the bank was finished in 1912. There is an information board by the bank in Catalan only. Special attention here goes to the double balcony in the corner and the intricate ironwork in the arched windows.

This is a very impressive stone building on the Plaza. We used the ATM, and never suspected it was famous.

A lovely building from the outside. It is owned by Santander bank. Being customers we went inside, but they were unable to help us as UK customers. Inside the bank is like any other, so it's the outside which is attractive and well worth seeing whilst you have a drink or snack on the town square. Tis is not a tourist destination. Try visiting the Can Prunera art gallery along the next street which is another stunning Art Nouveau building which you can visit for 5 euro.

Soller town hemmed in by mountains has cute narrow roads and some lovely old buildings, Banco de Soller is probably the most distinctive. With the wooden (tourist) tram stopping here, you won't have the place to yourself but seeing it cut a path right between the tables in the main square is rather good. Take a stroll down the side roads, browse in the shops but leave the car well outside town. A good place to amble around with granny but the children might not be as impressed.

Designed by the same Catalonian student of Gaudí as the church opposite in 1912. Look out for the stone carved lions head silently roaring out across the town square.

It is a really interesting building in the main square of Soller.
I liked the mixed styles combined together in this piece of architecture!
A must to see!

Interesting front/exterior for a bank/office building. Somewhat classical appearance, but a bit obnoxious (in terms of its advertisement). Not really a monument or thing to see, but if you are in the main square you’ll see this building. Dark wood interior looked nice too.

Santander Bank building which the outside is more interesting than the banal/functioning interior which I suppose is to be expected of a bank.
