Lebanon's southern most city, Tyre is one of those hidden gems that makes Lebanon a spectacular place to travel. Like all of Lebanon's coastal cities, it has witnessed a myriad of passing armies, conquerors and civilizations. Today, much of Tyre's ruins come from the Roman era, yet it exudes a noticeable beachy vibe.

Tyre is a lovely place in the south of Lebanon. You can visit the Roman remains in the city and make a stroll through the cosy town. We had excellent shawarma with delicious garlic sauce next to the gendarmerie. There are also nice shops and a beautiful harbor with a statue of the Virgin Mary. We booked the excursion to Sidon, Maghdouché and Tyre through Lebanon Local Tour which is the best and a very reliable tour company to visit any place in Lebanon. Our guide Jad was a good driver and an experienced guide. We had a great day!

Every year we spend 3 days weekend in Tyre. This year, we were a big group and Tyre was very disappointing. Owner of businesses have become very very greedy when it comes to money. Prices are so high and Everywhere you go they ask for a “relatively high” minimum charge that sometimes you don’t reach and obliged to spend anyways (restaurants, beach, drinks). Beach was very dirty and hotel asked for a regular market price but didn’t provide even proper services (like ac and internet). I bad experience all in all.

It is one of two archaeological sites in Tyre - smaller one but also beautiful. It is located at the seaside, which gives us a lot of photo opportunities in great scenery. I definitely recommend visiting both archaeological sites, if possible with a guide who can make them alive by telling all the amazing stories about the people who lived and worked in the ancient Tyre.

I stayed in Beirut so the beach was pretty far but it was worth the drive. It's a clean nice beach. I loved it

We had to choose one of the archaeological sites and we chose the Al-Mina. It has an amazing long Mosaic Road flanked by columns which makes you feel guilty walking on the mosaics. You can clearly see where the Roman baths with their hypocaust clay discs were. It is a magnificent place where you can just stand in awe admiring and wondering how this place was built. I would suggest you buy a book at the entrance that would explain things a bit better.

I visited Tyre and several other beautiful places in Lebanon earlier this year. Ancient Ruins across the city of Tyre was incredible to discover, Byzantine columns, hippodrome where Ancient civilizations held their major events such as Horse rides, remains of the cemetery, houses located underground, tiny hamams ( washrooms) and much more. It was amazing to be there to feel the air, to touch, to climb, to sit and just be there for a moment. Great pics were taken as a memory. I would highly recommend to visit Tyre if you are looking to deep dive into ancient history. Tyre has one of the cleanest beaches in the ME, I'd recommend to take a walk on the beach and take a boat trip into the open sea.
